Blog Names are very Important
In the last post I wrote primarily about the importance of post titles, and how they should be descriptive and contain keywords and phrases. Also wrote about how to determine good keywords and helpful tools.
Blog names are also extremely important as a good blog name will help search engines deliver traffic to your blog.
"Blogging for Business" is a good blog name; it's descriptive and contains appropriate keywords.
My home blog, The Ted Rap, has a bad name from the search engine optimization (SEO) perspective, but it has historical significance. Basically, I like it and I'm not changing it!
I blog about "Information Technology, security, and business" - wouldn't it be nice if I could somehow painlessly add those keywords to my blog's name? In fact I did, and it was easy.
Click on The Ted Rap and notice the "true" name as seen by browsers and search engines at the top of your browser window.
Web pages, which include blog pages, have a "title," which is the "real name." Search engines care very much about the title! By default it is your blog's name, but it's easily modified.
All Web pages are written in HTML, and this HTML contains the title. We can modify a Blog's basic HTML by modifying its "template" (sometimes called a
"theme"). I modified the line in the template that said:
<title>The Ted Rap</title>
to
<title>Information Technology, Security, Business: The Ted Rap</title>
and that was all it took.
Blogs actually have several types of pages, including the main page, archive pages, post pages, etc. This modified all the pages except for the post pages, where the default is already fine.
So, if I were posting on "Gold and Silver," the specific page created for that post would be "The Ted Rap:Gold and Silver," which is already great as it contains the post title and its included keywords (this is the Blogger.com default - your blogging software may differ somewhat).
So, a blog's title is very important. Pick a great name that contains keywords if you can, or modify the title by tweaking the blog's template. Give potential readers all the help they can in finding your blog!
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Agreed, Ted! I started my blog in 2000 and couldn't think of a clever name then... so I called it "meryl's notes..." since my name is uncommon. I know... that doesn't say much about my blog's topic... but at the time, I didn't know either.
Over time, my blog gained direction... but to change its name this late in the game would be crazy as it's set in stone... similar to your "Ted Rap" (I like the name, too).
So I try to make up for the lousy name by putting a tagline beneath the blog name that explains what the blog covers.

I totally agree I started my blog as a sales training blog called simple sales and marketing solutions but I now find although I still post lots of sales training articles I'm also writing far more articles about Timeshare in Europe these days and finding a good name that is search engine and human friendly that also discribes my blog exactly is driving me crazy! I don't want to keep changing it every day. Any suggestions?

I found it very informative. I want to add more that Blog posting is bit tough ... you have to be very accurate while commenting on any blog .... while readers don't find it scam when reading.
