Should Dull People Blog?
I’ve been in a few discussions with bloggers recently where the topic of dull people blogging has come up. Bloggers almost universally seem to say NO. I disagree vehemently!
“Dull people shouldn’t blog” is similar to “ugly people shouldn’t wear bathing suits” or “stupid people shouldn’t go to school!”
Who decides who is dull? or ugly? or stupid? People who you consider dull are probably considered exciting, or at least non-dull, by others. It’s a load of absolute judgmental nonsense to claim this type of person shouldn’t do that, e.g. “dull people shouldn’t blog.”
Yes, perhaps some people are generally considered less exciting than others. If those “generally considered less exciting” people want to blog, who are you to tell them no? Maybe you’re one of them?
“Errr, excuse me Joe,” said Mary. “You are not exciting enough to blog – it’s morally wrong for you to even attempt to and it offends my sensibilities”
Should we restrict “generally considered less exciting” people to only email and websites? Maybe they should have to wear a scarlet “D” on their chest?
Hey, I read some things written by people I consider dull because they have GREAT INFORMATION. If I think they are dull, ugly, or even stupid, I don’t care.
I don’t read blogs primarily for amusement. I read them for information. If I’m amused along the way, even better, but give me a dull yet trusted and interesting blog over an exciting yet otherwise unworthy blog any day.
